Valentine's Day Card Contest:
The Valentine's Day Card contest is open to all Fair Lawn children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Children are asked to design their best "Be My Valentine" card. The back cover must contain the contestant's name, grade, school and telephone number. Contestants are encouraged to use any creative materials in designing their special "Valentine's Day Card". Winners receive a $25.00 bank check and a gift for their Valentine.
Mother's Day Card Contest:
The contest is open to all Fair Lawn children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Each child will make up their own specialized card for their Mom, included will be a cover and inside a personal greeting of three reasons why your mom is the best! The back cover will include contestant's name, grade, telephone number and school.
Category 1 - Grades K and 1
Category 2 - Grades 2 and 3
Category 3 - Grades 4 and 5
Winner receives a $25.00 bank check and a bouquet of flowers for their mother.
Memorial Day Parade:
The annual Memorial Day parade will be held on Monday, May 26, 2025. The Parade begins at 10:00 a.m. from Pollitt Drive to Fair Lawn Avenue to River Road to Berdan Avenue, and down the Avenue of Heroes in Memorial Park. All military, civic, volunteer and service groups are welcome to participate on this "special day". There will be a separate assembly site for boys/girls scouts who have registered with the Recreation Department. Ceremonies will follow at the circle at the Avenue of Heroes after the parade concludes.
Father's Day Card Contest:
This contest is open to all Fair Lawn children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Each child is required to make up their own specialized card for their father, relevant guardian or special male figure in their lives. All cards must include a cover, an inside personal greeting stating 3 reasons why your dad is the best and a back cover. The back cover must contain the contestant's name, grade, school and telephone number. Contestants are encouraged to use any creative materials in designing their special "Father's Day Card".
Category 1 - Grades K and 1
Category 2 - Grades 2 and 3
Category 3 - Grades 4 and 5
Winner receives a $25.00 bank check and a gift for their father.
Fireworks Show:
The Fair Lawn Fireworks Show is scheduled for TBA at Memorial Park - Berdan Avenue and 1st Street.
The skies will glow with a multitude of colorful designs and explosions will be heard to honor America's freedom. Bring your family, friends, blankets or lawn chair to Memorial Park. Early arrivals will be treated to music from the "Asbury Fever" band. For your convenience vendors will be on location to sell food and drink for your pleasure and enjoyment. Columbus Day Holiday Contest:
The Fair Lawn Holiday Celebrations Committee in cooperation with the Knights of Columbus, the Cosmos Club and the Fair Lawn Recreation Department announces the Columbus Day Holiday Contest on Monday, October 14, 2024 for all children grades K through 8.
- Contestants can submit a creative map pertaining to Christopher Columbus’s voyage to the New World. This includes the three ships used for the voyage, tools like a spyglass telescope or attire worn by explorers. You can use all sorts of imaginative materials (crafts, paint, poster board, play-doh, photographs, etc.) to create your Columbus Day project.
- Contestants can also submit an original poem or essay that references Christopher Columbus’s voyage to the New World. Essays should be not exceed 500 words.
- Projects, poems and essays can be submitted in-person at the Fair Lawn Recreation Department located at 10-10 20th Street between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Additionally, poems and essays can be submitted via emailed to rlado@fairlawn.org. Contestants should include their name, address, phone number, school, and grade. All projects, poems and essays become the property of the Holiday Celebrations Committee, but may be claimed immediately by the contestants following the conclusion of the contest.
- Winners will be notified by telephone. All winners will be invited to a short program where they will receive their prize.

Halloween Costume Parade:
This event will take place in October at the spacious and tree lined area around beautiful Memorial Park. Children and adults are asked to assemble in costume behind the Memorial Pool bathhouse at 10:00 a.m. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. led by a police car and the Holiday Celebrations Committee Grand Marshal. The parade continues down the Avenue of Heroes and around Memorial Pool to the main concession stand. All participants receive a full size Halloween treat bag that can be used for trick or treating on Halloween plus treats already inside! In case of inclement weather, event is held inside at the Memorial Middle School Gymnasium.
Holiday Parade of Lights and Winter Wonderland:
Holiday Parade of Lights : This special holiday event is scheduled for December. Parade will begin at 6:00 p.m. Emergency Vehicles will be decked out in holiday lights. Parade will start at Berdan Avenue and River Road and will down Berdan Avenue to Memorial Park. We welcome a Special Visitor to Fair Lawn. Hot chocolate and candy canes will be given out . All children will receive a FREE small holiday gift bag. An outdoor skating rink and large inflatables will be available for the children.
Town Hall Lighting: Join us for the lighting of the Municipal Building.
Santa Claus Telephone: Weekday evenings in December (calls are made between 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.). One magical evening this holiday, Santa Claus will contact the children in the town of Fair Lawn directly by telephone. Parents are encouraged to fill out the form and return it early. Santa will be making his calls continually throughout the two-week period to guarantee he finds out who is naughty and who is nice.
